063. Life’s Purpose
Perhaps life's purpose is simply to find ways to fill your time; if that's the case, I suppose life's curse is thus deciding what is worth filling your time.
Today has not gone the way I imagined but, had I not dared to imagine it, I do not think it would have gone as well. Today's grounding statement was , 'I can handle whatever comes my way'. Quite a bold statement to make when at any given moment, life's predictable unpredictability is playing out in front of our eyes.
We exist in a world with people. Sometimes they exist, and other times, they are an imagined memory; existing somewhere out there, doing whatever, and getting on with the flow of life.
Then there are times when we exist in a world alone. The place where all our thoughts gather, where we find inspiration, create plans and imagine realities. In those times, the world is what your mind dictates it is, along with its citizens. Everything going exactly as you imagine it. Of course, we live in a world where things happen, so you can imagine in some rain and thunder, perhaps some traffic but beyond that, everything goes as you imagine.
Though, if that were the case, then what you would be experiencing would likely be considered a lucid dream. Alas, you are wake, and you live in a world with people. People with their own imagined realities which they wish to bring to life. Thus, at any given moment, their existence might collide with yours, sparking a moment of life's predictable unpredictability.
As I wrote that last paragraph, I did so with my sister watching over my shoulder waiting to ask me a question, and as I write this, she has just walked in to interrupt, yet again. Though, that is the way of life, and I am grateful for her presence here. Interaction with others has always had a way of sparking life and inspiration. So some interruptions are welcomed, however, that means the day loses an aspect of its predictability.
When your imagined finish time of 10am becomes 1030, and the next one goes from 1pm to 3pm, it can feel like you are beginning to lose control on the way your day should go. However, we exist in a society. What may look like an interruption, was someone else’s imagined realities playing out. Your reaction is your own, and perhaps to them, you have acted as predictably as they imagined, or you have not. Either way, there is more than one film reel playing on the stage that is our lives intertwined.
I guess that is life's challenge - knowing the interruptions worth your energy, and time.
Had I not allowed myself to imagine my day, create plans and imagine reality, then I would not have had the guiding light that led me to spaces I found myself in today. I would not have been able to discern when an activity had had enough of my time. I would not have been able to welcome the interactions that were worth every moment of energy I was able to share.
Though I my day might not have gone the way I had imagined, it was a whole lot smoother than my yesterday. Though my day did not go exactly as I imagined, tonight, I shall be in bed and bedtime. Because my day did not go as I imagined, I smiled, laughed and learnt a lot more thanks to life's predictable unpredictability.
So, next time you are imagining how you will fulfil your life's purpose, just remember, there is someone out there who also believes a moment shared with you, even for a moment, fulfils life's purpose.
Honestly, what am I talking about? You tell me. I am just glad I made it to day 3, what an achievement. I look forward to a better tomorrow. And I am excited to see what a better rested brain will come up with. So, with that, I have done my best today, and I look forward to seeing what my best will be tomorrow, because I have a few activities lined up for tomorrow so, yea, better tomorrow. Thank you for allowing my words to be a part of your day. Thank you.
