085. Celebratory
And just like that, the week is already over.
It’s common lore that we never full get to enjoy the joys of any accomplishment as we as so quickly to set another target as we approach the one we have barely reached. I guess to a degree, the goal is always to dream bigger and want for more so that you can continually allow for growth in your life. Unfortunately, that comes at the cost of celebrating one’s hard work.
This is a very strange period for me with each new year as my birthday approaches. For some time now, I have not been one for celebration in general. Of course like any little girl, when I was younger, I used to eagerly wait for my opportunity to be celebrated. Then somewhere along the way, the music slowed and people stopped making birthdays such a big deal. Without wanting to waste so much energy on something people would care little about, I learnt to care less and less until eventually, the thought of trying to do something became too much of a bother.
Years later, I am not very moved by the notion. I jump at the opportunity to celebrate my friends and family but for myself, I have little desire. Unfortunately, in today’s world where young people are short on things worthy of celebration, the decision of how your day is spent is not solely up to you.
I am a person who believes we should take the opportunities available to us to celebrate those around us. For us to do so, this does not require us to wait for a singular moment on the calendar, nor does it require us to take out loans in order to put together extravagant displays of entertainment. Often, if we wait for those moments, we are bound to miss out on all the joys of the accomplishments along the way. We also never learn the necessary habits of acknowledging our efforts. A habit that when used right, could be a tool used to help us grow.
For some people, the logic is that you are going to be 27 years old for the duration of the coming year so what is the point in celebrating one among 365 days. That reasoning is enough to disregard any need for celebration. However, life’s joy are few and far between. If we do not build the skillset of finding opportunities worthy of celebration, then there will be nothing in life that will warrant any occasion.
This year, I thought perhaps I would do something celebratory, at least mainstream celebratory. I tend to do something for myself a little out of the ordinary so that I have something to distinguish the moment from other mundane ones. As the day approaches, I do not want to put in all the effort required to put together a gathering. Simply being born does not feel like a just enough reason to become an event coordinator. However, completing a 90 day writing challenge does in fact feel like something worthy of an attempt at organising people.
Just like that, another week is over. In no time, I will be writing the Final Send. Soon, a moment worthy of acknowledgment, perhaps even celebration, will be upon us. I am not sure I know how to feel. Between myself and the goal that was set all the way back in April, now remains 5 days. On day 5 I was on the verge of so much uncertainty, hoping I would be able to follow through with the random new commitment I made. On day 85, I am in awe that my hoping, and my trying was able to take me so far. So, the end is near and I want to make every effort to live these final days as a celebration of commitment and the power of trying.
Dear reader, another weekend is upon us. I hope you take the time to rejuvenate yourself so you can start the new week fresh and ready. I hope you are all back here next week for the final 5 days!!!!
