075. Entertaining Plot
Sometimes I justify late nights by saying I probably would have been partying, but really the truth is I always been a sucker for an entertaining plot.
As I write this, I am hours into the plot of a show that truly isn’t that good. However, I am well entertained. And for that, I am glad the weekend has arrived. When I got home, I imagined myself getting to my keyboard soon after entering the house and making a tea. That is not how it played out. Luckily, I was able to enjoy my tea but, with my tea, I decided to put on show. That is where I made the choice that has me up hours past midnight.
When I was in high school, back when I really got into the concept of okay next, I’m not sure if I had the consciousness to think that I could get lost in these moving images for hours. For much of my childhood, you just had to follow the show programming. Whatever came on is what you watch. If that didn’t entertain you, then there was the option to peruse the channel guide. Today, everything comes out like a super long movie.
Lately I have been yearning to do something fun and silly. Something that just playful – entertaining for the sake of entertainment. Watching a show wasn’t really the idea I had it mind but I guess the staying up late just chasing the plot felt a little rebellious. I miss those days.
Getting older has felt like liberations from certain constraints. Of course, growing up comes with its own challenges but, for so long, I just wanted to do what I wanted to do. Not worry about being up too late, or having my volume on to loud, perhaps even getting home to late. At some point, those constraints go, and what is left is the responsibility of those liberties you have been granted.
Months ago, I honestly cannot believe I have been at this writing thing for months now but, months ago, after a late night at a time when I had been yearning for a sense of escape, I found myself in a late night binge. In truth, it all felt like it had all aligned perfectly. I even found a line that I feel applies yet again in this scenario. The quote was, ‘do you like the reason why you are tired?’ And to that, my answer will have to yes.
I do feel a little ridiculous to have allowed myself to go unslept for so long, but I lack the kind of care it would require for that to upset. I did something for the fun of it and, I’m glad. I have been trying to capture little moments like these. They are so rare and far between now.
I have never been much of a reader or writer. All of this is new to me. I am genuinely trying to trust that I am capable of putting together coherent sentences. So far, I find myself reading back some old article and wonder how I didn’t notice some errors. However, the work is there to go back to and learn and grow from so I’m just glad I’m trying. However, I have most of my life indulging the audio visual.
There was a time when there was always something to be watched. Something you could so easily lose a day, or even a week in. That all feels so long ago. They was a time I even wondered if the show would ever stop. But there was always more show. More genres, more idea, more concepts, more plots. Then eventually, it all grew mundane. Everything was trying to be everything else. Within the first 5 minutes of the film, the entire plot clear. It grew tiring wanting to be wrong. But, wow!!! Have I spent many a long night enjoying some good writing and direction. Alas, today is a new day, where there is always more show, but nothing to watch.
Now, I shall allow myself 20 more minutes of entertainment before I allow my restful weekend to begin. Thank you all dear readers for following along for another week. Enjoy your weekend 😊
