053. Beautiful Sunset

It may never seize to amaze me how quickly the moments go but how slowly the hours come.

Today, I saw one of the most beautiful sunset I have ever seen in my life. I honestly did not know a sunset could last so long. I suppose the sun is always setting and rising, so, it can last as long as the sun burns. Though, to be able to experience it for as long a moment as I got today, it’s hard to find the words. So, gratitude, will have to suffice.

I wonder when it was we began to feel the need for control as species. I wonder if it's something innately human, or, if it is something that we picked up along the millennia.

Today I was reminded that life has its own course. I found myself looking for threads long enough for me to pull on, to get where I wanted to be. Trying to find which person could get me to the next person then the next, until I could get my way. All I was doing was attempting to swim up a stream that had its own plans. However, if I did not struggle, and try to fight my way through, then I never would have noticed the flow of the water.

Though I grew up in a landlocked country, I have always loved the water. Be it rain, river, or sea, the flow of water has always provided me comfort.

I have only ever known cities and houses. A world where everyone has always had somewhere to be or something that they are not doing. A world filled with man's creations and their monuments. A place where your existence's purpose was to be found amidst those creations. If you became worthy of being remembered, then perhaps a monument would be erected in your honour.

As I watched the waves wash up the footprints left by passersby, I was reminded of my own insignificance. Deep or shallow, eventually, the tide erased any marks made. Some took two waves to wash away, some took one, some took four. It didn't matter the depth of the footprint left, eventually, you not have been able to know if anyone had ever stepped foot on that coast.

There was no correlation. A deeper print did not mean more waves to wash away, a shallow one did not mean less. I smiled as little children swam in the ocean and created ripples further than they could swim. The thought that can to mind was of that saying that speaks about how a butterfly flapping its wings on one side of the world, can cause a typhoon on the opposite side of the world. I laughed a little as I was reminded of the significance of a singular being.

Today, my moments felt stolen. Whether it was the times i would pull out my phone to capture a moment, or the moments I would become conscious of my own serenity, I found myself - for a moment - pulled back into 'reality'. Though, sitting there, the only thing that mattered was the gold of the sun, the pinks in the sky, and the texture of the surface of the water that I hope one day I will be able to paint.

Somethings are because they simply are.

If you never tried to leave your footprints in the sand, you would never learn that the waves will come and go as they please, so, the only thing is to leave your mark a little further up the coast. Even then, a tide high enough, a wind strong enough, or the many other passersby with little regard for your markings, eventually, that mark too will be gone.

Eventually, you learn to let the water flow, and in return, you learn from it too.

If you don't try, you will never know how far the waves you create can ripple. And when your ripple collapses against the tides of the ocean, you can allow yourself a moment, knowing that you have done all that you could. As the sunsets for you, somewhere across the world, a new day is being born.

The sun will rise and set as it please, the waves will come and go as they please. It takes all day to reach the sunset, and in a matter of moments, it's gone. You cannot make it come any sooner, you cannot make it last any longer. Somethings, you just have to let them be.

Dear reader, I am so grateful for that moment of peace I was able to live in today. My day was a bit of an emotional rollercoaster but, knowing when to let go and allow the tide to take you, might just get you where you want to go. With that, I have done my best today and I am eager to finally get some sleep.

I hope to see you back here tomorrow for Day 54 :)
